Melanie Joy Fontana is an award winning 23 year-old singer/songwriter/actress/dancer originally hailing from Newington, Connecticut and after spending five years in New York City, is  now based out of Los Angeles, CA.

Melanie has a five octave vocal range and a bold, soulful voice that has been compared to the vocal abilities of Teena Marie, Mariah Carey, as well as Christina Aquilera. Although her genre is considered pop/r & b/rock, she is capable of singing ALL genres and can perform Broadway tunes, country, oldies and jazz  selections with ease.

Melanie has received awards for both her vocal abilities and her songwriting. She has been featured in press articles, as well as radio station performances and interviews, including being a live vocalist and being interviewed by WTIC-FM in Hartford, Connecticut, MORE94 FM in Nassau, Bahamas and via phone with www.tynefm.com in the U.K. Melanie has had selected songs played on www.tynefm.com, - United Kingdom; WMEL (PopGarden Radio) -Melbourne, Florida, The Time Machine Radio show- Hawaii, and Q107- Cape May, New Jersey.

In June 2007, Melanie recorded and released a parody single titled "Paris' Sweet Escape" (co-written by DJ Gary Craig on WTIC-FM, Hartford, Connecticut.) The song received nationwide air play from Connecticut to Chicago to Hawaii as well as other radio markets. In January of 2009, she wrote and recorded a second parody song for Gary Craig of WTIC-FM which  also received nationwide air time which was "Married Ladies"; the parody song to Beyonce's "Single Ladies".

She has performed at various locations, including the World Famous Apollo Theatre in Harlem, New York, at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland for the Baltimore Orioles,  CBGB's, The Bitter End, as well as B.B. Kings in New York City.

She has performed at local coffee houses, lounges, for community affairs, national anthem singer for minor league ball teams in Connecticut and at private parties. Melanie was named the first "Connecticut Idol" in October of 2002 by WTIC-FM Radio. She has appeared on and been a winning episode contestant/vocalist and a semi-finalist on MTV’s “Say What Karaoke” and was also a contestant/vocalist on MTV's Total Request Live. She has done acting recently, being a featured extra on CBS/Sony (then VH-1’s) “Love Monkey“, Fox Television‘s “The Wedding Bells,“ HBO’s “The Flight of the Conchords" and "Rescue Me."

Melanie has eight years of studio experience behind her. She has done demo singing at Trod Nossel Studios, Wallingford, Connecticut; at Rooster Studios in Hamden, Connecticut; at Pitch Black Productions, Atlanta, Georgia; at Skyelab Studios, New York City; at Schoolhouse Music, Randolph, Massachusetts; at The Demo Center, New York City;  at Pitch Black Records, Roosevelt Island, New York; and For several different producers at  (the former) Sony Studios, New York City as well as Play Studios.

Melanie is a member of both AFTRA and ASCAP.
